Allegro Media Group Acquires Sub-Distributor Music Design, Inc.;
Rebrands NewSound Kids; Retains Dan Godden as Manager
May 18, 2009 - Portland, Oregon
Allegro Media Group, a leading North American independent distributor of
music, video and audio books, has acquired substantially all assets and will
assume certain liabilities of Music Design, Inc., a third party distributor
of relaxation music and self help CDs from major and independent labels to
non-traditional retailers. The company will also rebrand Allegro’s
existing NewSound department as NewSound Kids, with current Music Design
manager Dan Godden staying on to manage both NewSound Kids and Music Design.
“We are very excited by this acquisition,” said Rico Micallef,
Allegro Media Group President. “Having Dan Godden manage both the rebranded
NewSound Kids and Music Design, a company he knows so very well, makes a
lot of sense.” Godden has worked for Music Design since 1985.
Music Design is a premier third-party distributor of relaxation music and
self-help recordings and is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Allegro will
acquire substantially all assets of Music Design, Incorporated, a subsidiary
of Virgin Records America.
“The nature of Music Design’s sub-distribution business model,
its emphasis on CDs and DVD product and its very targeted retail relationships
make it a great fit for Allegro, as our business is increasingly focused
on digital formats,” said David D’Urbano, SVP Financial Operations & Services
for EMI Music North America, parent of Virgin Records. “We look
forward to working with Allegro as a distributor of our own recordings.”
Godden and the Music Design team will manage the rebranded NewSound Kids department from Music Design’s headquarters in Milwaukee. NewSound Kids sells children’s music and videos to one-stop distribution centers and other non-traditional markets worldwide.
