Allegro is the premier distributor of independent classical
music in North America. Founded over 30 years ago, Allegro began as a
classical music import service. Over 20 years ago, brothers Joe, Vince,
and Rico Micallef purchased Allegro from its original owner, implemented
new systems, and quickly moved Allegro to the forefront of state-of-the-art
entertainment distribution.
Allegro has a well-deserved reputation as
one of the most efficient and effective independents
in North America. Along the way, Allegro has
acquired complementary companies that have expanded
our distribution channels. From smaller distributors,
listening station companies, and specialty distribution
companies like Music Design, NewSound (gift
market), and NAIL (alt rock), these acquisitions
have given Allegro an unparalleled breadth of
distribution. Through our Softland branch, we
are even able to place titles into the military
network of PX stores worldwide
From traditional core retail accounts to gift
accounts and special market outlets, Allegro
leaves no stone unturned in seeking new markets
and providing quality products for our thousands
of direct and retail customers.
OUR CLASSICAL TEAM
Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing Damon
Sgobbo is our King of Classical Music. He is
a graduate of Manhattan School of Music and
brings a lifelong background in performance,
retail, and distribution to the Allegro team.
A highly accomplished French horn player (and
Dennis Brain fanatic), Damon has performed as
a soloist in Avery Fischer Hall and as principal
horn with the Royal, Bolshoi, and Stuttgart
Ballets as well as the New Jersey Symphony.
He has shared the performance stage with Zubin
Mehta, Henry Lewis, Ashley Lawrence, Itzhak
Perlman, Isaac Stern, and Rudolph Firkušný.
In his spare time, Damon played on Broadway,
in various commercial dates, and founded the
New Manhattan Brass Quintet. When his dreams
of becoming Principal Horn of the Chicago Symphony
(or playing second base for the Yankees) were
finally dashed, Damon wisely turned his talents
towards music retail, where he became the Classical
and later General Manager for HMV Records before
being promoted to HMV’s National Purchasing
Manager. In December 1999 Damon became Allegro’s
Vice President of North American Sales, founding
our New York office, and today he oversees Allegro’s
Sales & Marketing departments. When he’s not
rambling on about the great Chicago brass section
of the 1950s and ’60s, he leads our team in
finding new and innovative methods to market
and sell your product with great energy, enthusiasm,
and commitment.
Classical Product Manager Bryan Huitt, a Portland
native, attended the UO School of Music and
graduated from PSU with a degree in Vocal Performance.
He is an accomplished musician on the clarinet,
piano, guitar, flute, and sax, and possesses
wonderful vocal talent, singing in choirs, musical
theater, and opera. He has been an active member
of the local choral and vocal scene for over
25 years with groups such as Portland State
Chamber Choir, Portland State Opera (roles include
Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors and
Betto di Signa in Gianni Schicchi), Portland
Symphonic Choir, David York Ensemble (Artistic
Board Member), and even singing background with
Portland’s own Pink Martini! Fifteen years
of management experience in the hospitality/customer
service industries have given Bryan a strong
foundation in client relations and innovative
problem solving. His creativity and spirited
nature are a welcome addition to the Allegro
Classical team, as is his passion for travel,
wine/beer tasting, and—of course—UO Duck football.
